Wedding Photography at Barberstown Castle

Straffan, Co. Kildare

Barberstown Castle has been standing, in one form or another, since 1288 — parts of it occupied continuously for over four centuries. Working here as a wedding photographer at Barberstown Castle means moving through three distinct eras in a single afternoon: a medieval keep, an Elizabethan house, and a Victorian wing, each with its own light and its own character.

A Few Fun Facts

What makes this venue special, from what we've seen behind the camera
🏰

Three Centuries of Architecture in One Building

The original 13th-century Castle Keep, a 16th-century Elizabethan house, and an 1830s Victorian wing all sit side by side.

🎵

Once Eric Clapton's Home

Barberstown Castle was owned by Eric Clapton from 1979 to 1987, when musicians would gather to play late into the night in the Green Room and Castle Keep.

🍸

A 16th-Century Coach House Turned Banqueting Hall

Receptions are held in the Medieval Banqueting Hall, with a private drinks area where a piper often welcomes guests.

🔥

The Haggard Bar

A former 15th-century coach house, now a cosy pub with an open fire — popular for next-day wedding parties.

🌳

20 Acres of Grounds

Mature gardens and grounds give plenty of quiet spots for couple portraits away from the reception itself.

🛡️

One of Ireland's Most Continuously Occupied Castles

Each era simply added on to what came before, rather than knocking down and rebuilding.
